The Government Trading Corporation of Iran announced the guaranteed purchase of 2.6 million tons of wheat from local farmers, until June 9, Trend reports via ILNA.
“The guaranteed purchase of wheat in the country since mid-April, exceeded 2.6 million tons worth over $2.4 billion,” Mohammad Taqi Tabatabaie, the spokesman of the Government Trading Corporation of Iran said.
Tabatabaie added that over $2 billion worth of payments, equivalent to 86 percent of the wheat farmers' demands have been settled so far.
He went on to say that the guaranteed purchase of wheat has decreased compared to the preceding year.
Tabatabaie noted that the purchase of 96,000 tons of rapeseed oil is worth more than $238 million.
He also announced the distribution of 100,000 tons of imported rice and 100,000 tons of sugar to maintain the market stability.
