Trend:

Iran and Azerbaijan signed an agreement about joint construction of a road bridge over the Astarachay river, General Manager at Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization told Trend in an interview.

The two countries have agreed to construct a bridge for the transportation of cars in Astara, Javad Hedayati noted.

The legal procedures for the construction of the Astarachay Bridge have been completed. The negotiations were finalized and the Memorandum of Understanding was signed by officials of the two countries.

Iran's Minister of Road and Urban Development Rostam Qassemi traveled to the Republic of Azerbaijan for a series of negotiations with the purpose of facilitating the transportation.

During his visit to Azerbaijan, the construction of the Astarachay Bridge practically entered the operational phase, that would accelerate Iran's connection to Eurasia, Hedayati said.

"In addition, due to the fact that our railway terminal was located in the urban area, which would not allow us to potentially expand terminals, there have been negotiations with the Azerbaijani side to change the trucks transportation route to outskirt area of the city of Astara,” he explained.
