BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 14. Iran's crude steel production in the first 11 months of the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through February 19, 2024) increased by 5.8 percent compared to the same period last year, Iran's Steel Producers Association said, Trend reports.
According to the report, Iran produced 29.3 million tons of crude steel during the 11 months. While crude steel production in the same period last year was 27.7 million tons.
The report indicates that Iran produced about 19.8 million tons of steel products in the first 11 months. This also shows a decline of 1.1 percent compared to the same period last year. Whereas 20 million tons of steel products were produced in the same period last year. It also indicates that the country produced about 31.5 million tons of sponge iron in the first 11 months. And this means an increase of 8.8 percent compared to the same period last year. Thus, 28.9 million tons of sponge iron were produced in the same period last year.
Information shows that about 53.2 million tons of iron ore pellets were produced in the country during the first 11 months. The production of iron ore pellets rose 6.6 percent from the same period last year. Production of iron ore pellets was 49.9 million tons in the same period last year.
To note, Iran's steel production potential is about 40 million tons per year. Iran plans to increase its steel production potential to 55 million tons by 2025.
