BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 26. Iran's imports of passenger cars to the country increased 16 times in value and 27 times in quantity in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024) compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), the data of Iran's Customs Administration said, Trend reports.
Imports of passenger cars in Iran last year totaled 11,236 units worth about $224 million.
However, Iran imported 411 cars worth about $13.4 million last year.
Iran's three main companies-Iran's Saipa Automobile Manufacturing Company imported 2,349 cars worth $28.6 million, Mammut Khodro Company imported 1,144 cars worth $24.5 million, and Iran's Moin Motor Company imported 980 cars worth about $21.6 million last year.
To note, foreign currency is allocated by the Central Bank of Iran as large sums are spent on importing passenger cars.
After the sale of passenger cars, these funds are returned to the Central Bank of Iran in Rial.
