Iran's external debt declines

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 15. Iran's external debt decreased by 22.6 percent by the end of the 11th month of the last Iranian year (February 19, 2024) compared to the end of the same month of the previous year (February 20, 2023), the statistics of Iran's Central Bank said, Trend reports.

According to the statistics, Iran's foreign debt amounted to $4.99 billion at the end of the 11th month of last year. However, at the end of the same month of the previous year, Iran's external debt was $6.44 billion.

The information adds that $2.2 billion of Iran's debt is short-term and more than $2.79 billion is long-term.

The statistics indicate that, including euros, Iran's external debt is 4.63 billion euros. Out of them, there are 2.04 billion short-term and 2.59 billion long-term debts.

To note, Iran prefers not to take out external loans for the development of its economy. The country is interested in developing large projects at the expense of investors.
