Volume of cargo handling at Iran's ports grows

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 23. The volume of cargo handling in Iran's ports amounted to 17.5 million tons in the first month of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through April 20, 2024), the report of Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization said, Trend reports.

According to the report, the volume of loaded cargo in the first month amounted to 11 million tons, and the volume of unloaded cargo amounted to 6.49 million tons.

The report showed that 7.52 million tons of crude oil and petroleum products were loaded and unloaded in Iran's ports during the first month. A total of 9.99 million tons of non-oil products were loaded and unloaded during the mentioned period.

The data in the report indicates that about 200,000 TEU containers were handled in the ports. This is 9 percent more than last year.

To note, the current throughput capacity of Iranian ports is more than 285 million tons. Iran is taking steps to increase the capacity of ports by 500 million tons.
