Iran calls for boosting technical capabilities of G77 members

Group of 77 President Ali Asghar Soltanieh called for boosting technical capabilities of the member states through receiving related know-how and expertise, ISNA reported.

He made the remarks in the three-week Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) preliminary commission technical meeting underway in Vienna and was started on February 14. The session mainly deals with technical issues on compiling a regime for verifying the treaty.

Soltanieh, who is resuming G77 presidency in 2011, outlined positions of the group which involves developing states and called for promoting its technical expertise through receiving information.

The meeting runs until March 4.

The Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) bans all nuclear explosions in all environments, for military or civilian purposes. It was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 10 September 1996.

It opened for signature in New York on 24 September 1996, when it was signed by 71 States, including five of the eight then nuclear-capable states.
