Iran's first vice-president, Eshaq Jahangiri, said the media ban on covering news of the ex-president, Mohammad Khatami, will be soon lifted.

Jahangiri said that banning media from publishing pictures and news of the former president is a temporary and short-live event, Iran's ILNA news agency reported April 4.

Last February, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, the spokesman for Iran's judiciary, said the Iranian media remain banned from mentioning the former reformist president, Mohammad Khatami and publishing his comments, statements and pictures.

He also warned that the media outlets that violate the ban would be dealt with, adding there was a regulation that prohibits media from publishing photos and news about the former president and it remained in place.

Earlier Jahangiri said that the administration is engaged in talks with the judiciary in order to lift the ban.

Iran's judiciary blocked access to reformist Jamaran and Bahar News websites in late February due to their making some reports about Khatami, however the media were unbanned later after removing the former president's pictures.

While responding to a question about President Hassan Rouhani's campaign promises for more open political atmosphere, Jahangiri confirmed that the promise was not completely fulfilled.

However, he said that great reforms have been done expressing hope that the reforms would continue.

Rouhani's administration has been unsuccessful in ending the house arrest of the opposition leader, Mehdi Karroubi and Mir Hossein Moussavi, despite promises made during the presidency campaign.

The success of administration efforts for lifting media ban on Khatami also remains under serious doubts.
