Deputy mayor of Iranian capital city of Tehran, Meisam Amroudi was arrested in Kuwait Iranian Fars news agency reported April 28.
Amroudi who heads cultural affairs in Tehran municipality already served as head of Iranian schools in Kuwait . He was arrested in Kuwait airport on his way to Tehran.
Amroudi was in Kuwait at the invitation of the Iran-Kuwait friendship society to participate in a ceremony.
There was no immediate report on the reason for Amroudi's arrest.
However Fars quoted an official with Tehran municipality as claiming Amroudi has faced some problems with his visa, which is being resolved.
Farzad Khalafi, media affairs deputy for the Tehran municipality said that Amroudi was expelled from Kuwait in 1999 due to his "anti-US and anti-Israeli activities."
The Tehran municipality is following the issue via Kuwait embassy in Tehran, Khalafi added.
