The commander of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari cited Yemen as the latest achievement of Iran's Islamic Revolution (1979).
Yemenis have chosen the Islamic Republic as a model, Jafari stated, adding that Iran's resistance against arrogant powers promotes them.
The regional and trans-regional enemies of the Islamic Revolution attempt to stop Yemeni people's resistance, however they have failed so far, the IRGC commander said, Iran's Fars news agency reported May 4.
The Iranian-backed Houthi militia group-Ansarullah, whose power base is in the main Shiite northern highlands, overran Sanaa unopposed last September.
At that time, an Iranian conservative MP, Ali Reza Zakani boasted that Sanaa was now the fourth Arab capital in Iranian hands - after Beirut (through Hezbollah), Damascus (through President Bashar al-Assad) and Baghdad (through Iraq's democratically elected Shia-led government).
An international coalition led by Saudi Arabia launched air strikes on the Houthi militia forces in Yemen March 25, in a move to support President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi who was forced to flee to Riyadh.
Iran has repeatedly called on Riyadh to immediately halt the air strikes on Yemen, saying intra-Yemeni dialog is the only way to end the current political deadlock in the Arab country.
Tehran also rejects claims about providing military support to the Yemeni rebels.
