Iran's Minister of Energy Reza Ardakanian said that Iran isn't the only country that is battling climate changes, Trend reports via ILNA.

He pointed out that 'climate change is not a theory but a reality', which led to severe droughts in different parts of the world.

"In our country and region, climate change to a large extent means that we must be ready to face the extreme weather crisis,” Ardakanian said.

He pointed out that the rainfall in Iran is one third of the world average rainfall.

“The average global rainfall is 750 mm and in Iran it is 250 mm,” he said.

Referring to the situation in Khuzestan province, Ardakanian stated that inflow of the country`s dams at the beginning of the year was 10 billion cubic meters less than last year, which means the rainfall in Khuzestan province was 30 percent less than last year.

He noted the government`s efforts to solve the Khuzestan Province issue.

“The president has allocated credits to speed up water management-related projects and compensate the damages,” said Ardakanian.

Ardakanian also announced that several desalination plants have been set up to increase the quality of drinking water.
