Explosives' blast killed three police members in Iran 's southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan.

The incident took place near a bridge close to Sarbaz city on March 19, morning, while the police officers ran over a trap of explosives, triggering the blast, Iran 's official IRIB news agency reported.

As a result of the blast two other police officers were also injured and taken to a local hospital.

Unknown gunmen started opening fire on police forces after the explosion, however they later left the area, according to the local witnesses. Iranian media outlets didn't provide any more information on the group or people that were responsible for installing the explosive trap.

In recent months, extremist groups in the province have conducted several attacks against local police offices. The groups claim they're fighting against the Iranian government for protection of Sunni residents of the province.

One Iranian soldier serving at a police base near Zahedan city was killed during an armed incident on March 17.
One Iranian police officer was killed, and two other injured in an armed attack on Jan. 21. Four police officers were killed in similar incidents in the city of Saravan last October.
