Iran to rout terrorist groups in border regions soon
Baku, Azerbaijan, Apr.11
By Fatih Karimov - Trend:
Iran will rout all terrorist groups which are active in the border regions in the near future, Commander of the Iranian Army's Ground Forces Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan said.
Pourdastan said that terrorist groups are mainly active in eastern borders of the country.
"But, the Iranian armed forces will give them a crushing response," Iran's Mehr news agency quoted Pourdastan as saying on April 10.
Although the IS (Islamic State) terrorists got near to the country's borders, but their heinous plots were thwarted by the crushing response of the Iranian armed forces, he added.
He said that the main mission of the Army's ground forces is to protect the western borders.
"Military equipment is smuggled via the western provinces of Kermanshah, Ilam, and Khuzestan. The Army's ground forces and the border police are tasked with maintaining security at the borders," Pourdastan said.
He also said the IS has been formed to fuel sectarian civil war and spread insecurity in the region.
In January, Pourdastan said that the Iranian Army has warned the IS about any potential movement toward the Iranian border since the very beginning of the terrorist group's incursion into Iraq. He said the Iranian Army is fully familiar with tactics used by terrorists and closely monitors their movement inside Iraq.
Earlier Iran's Border Guard Chief of Police Qasem Rezaee has said that Iranian forces engaged in over 70 battles with insurgents attacking from the Pakistani soil during the past one year.
He said that there are over 80 criminal groups in the neighbor country which every once in a while attack the Iranian border.
