Baku, Azerbaijan, Aug. 27

Iranian army unveiled the country’s first homemade vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) drone on Aug. 27, during a ceremony attended by Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan.

The drone dubbed "Roham", which is capable of photogrammetric data acquisition, does not require a runway for take-off and landing, Tasnim news agency reported Aug. 27.

It can be used in hard areas in mountainous and jungle terrain as well as maritime missions to conduct aerial surveys.

The Islamic Republic says that has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems in recent years.

Iran has manufactured its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles, radars, boats, submarines and fighter planes since 1992. Iran also unveiled its first domestically-manufactured long-range unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in 2010.
