According to the State Statistics Committee, as of January-September 2016, the Azerbaijani consumer market amounted to 27.317 billion manat, which is 1.9 percent more than its turnover for the same period of 2015. The monthly consumer expenses are estimated at 315.3 manat per capita in January-September 2016 or by 35.7 manat more compared to January-September 2015.
The Azerbaijani trading networks sold consumer goods worth 21.086 billion manat to the population in January-September 2016, which is 2.3 percent more than in the same period of 2015. Legal entities ensured 11.1 percent of trade turnover.
The monthly retail trade turnover amounted to 243.4 manat, which is 32.2 manat more than in January-September 2015.
In January-September 2016 the food trade (10.504 billion manat) increased by 3.1 percent from year to year, while retail sales of non-food items (10.582 billion manat) - by 0.9 percent.
The commodity market in the country is developing mainly due to inflationary factors.
Paid services worth 5.411 billion manat were rendered to the population in January-September 2016 or 0.6 percent more compared to January-September 2015. Legal entities ensured 73.6 percent of this growth and rendered the services worth 3.980 billion manat or by 5.5 percent more than in 2015.
Every citizen of the country acquired paid goods worth 562.1 manat per month in January-September 2016, which is 24.9 manat more than in January-September 2015.
Transportation, public utilities and communication services prevail in the structure of paid services.
Prices
According to the State Statistics Committee, inflation in the country amounted to 11.2 percent in January-September 2016 compared to January-September 2015.
The food prices increased by 12.7 percent, non-food items – 15.9 percent and tariffs for services – 5.2 percent in January-September 2016.
Such a high rate of inflation in the country was the result of the impact of national currency devaluation.
The prices on consumer goods increased by 2.3 percent in Azerbaijan in September 2016 compared to August 2016.
The food prices increased by 4 percent, non-food items - by 1.6 percent, tariffs for services – 0.6 percent in Azerbaijan in September 2016 compared to August 2016.
The prices on rice, flour, bread, macaroni, buckwheat, barley, oats, beef, mutton and chicken, dairy products, fish products, sausages, eggs, butter and vegetable oil, sugar and granulated sugar, lemons, bananas, raisins, cabbages, greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, sweet peppers, carrots, green beans, potatoes, beets, garlic, and tobacco products increased in Azerbaijan for the month.
The prices on apples, pumpkins and onions decreased.
The prices on other food products were not greatly changed.
The prices on fabrics, clothes and shoes, building materials, furniture, household items, carpets and other floor coverings, glass products, dishes and cutlery, household appliances, televisions, telephones and cameras, computers, stationery, as well as cars and spare parts increased.
Other non-food items were not greatly changed.
The cost of international passenger transportation by planes and trains decreased in September.
The tuition fees at universities, the cost of tours to the foreign countries, rental apartments, dental, hairdressing, beauty services, repair services, as well as dry cleaning increased. The cost of other paid services has not been changed.
The base index of consumer prices, calculated except for the goods and services subject to seasonal changes (fruits and vegetables) increased by 12.5 percent in January-September 2016 compared to January-September 2015.
The industrial producer price index increased by 3.3 percent in Azerbaijan in September 2016 compared to September 2015. A 16.4 percent growth was observed in January-September 2016 compared to January-September 2015.
During this period, producer prices in the mining industry increased by 3.4 percent, while by 2.5 percent in the manufacturing industry for the month.
The producer prices on oil and gas production increased by 3.5 percent, metal ores production - by 2.4 percent in September.
The producer prices in metallurgy increased by 9.7 percent, the refining industry - 3.3 percent, the production of tobacco products - by 2.7 percent, the production of building materials - by 1.9 percent, production of beverages - 0.8 percent, the food industry and the production of printed products - 0.5 percent, clothing manufacturing - by 0.4 percent, weaving industry and production of electrical equipment - by 0.2 percent, the chemical industry – 0.1 percent. The prices in the field of cardboard and paper production decreased by 0.1 percent.
The producer prices in other spheres of the manufacturing industry remained unchanged.
The tariffs for cargo transportation by the Azerbaijani transport sector in national currency increased by 34.4 percent in January-September 2016 compared to the same period of 2015. The tariffs for cargo transportation increased by 1.5 percent in September 2016 compared to August 2016.
The cargo transportation by planes and trains increased by 1.6 percent, while cargo transportation by ships - by 1.8 percent during the reporting period. In September, the tariffs for transportation of gas by pipelines increased by 1.6 percent, while tariffs for transportation of oil - by 2.1 percent. The tariffs for cargo transportation by vehicles increased by 0.6 percent in September.
The producer prices on agricultural products in Azerbaijan decreased by 5.3 percent in January-September 2016 compared to the same period of 2015.
According to the State Statistics Committee, the producer prices on vegetable products declined by 13.4 percent, livestock products - increased by 2.7 percent in the reporting period.
The producer prices on vegetable products increased by 1.7 percent and livestock products - by 0.5 percent in September 2016 compared to August 2016. In general, the country's agricultural products increased by 1.1 percent in September.
During the reporting period, the prices on onions decreased, while prices on beans, cucumbers, eggplants, tomatoes, garlic, hazelnuts, pears increased.
The price on beef, poultry meat and eggs increased in September. The prices on the rest livestock and vegetable products remained unchanged.
