Azerbaijani Agriculture Ministry talks issuing subsidies to farmers

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 2

By Eldar Janashvili - Trend:

Azerbaijan’s Electronic Agriculture Information System (EAIS) has completed the acceptance of farmers' applications for spring sowing, Trend reports with reference to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Agriculture.

As of July 1, 2020, the Agrarian Credit and Development Agency approved 45,000 applications of farmers about spring sowing and paid subsidies for 35,000 of them (77.7 percent of all applications).

In total, 59,400 applications for spring field crops on 111,000 hectares were approved.

According to the new subsidy mechanism, which entered into force in 2020, farmers, having entered information about the cultivated area and crops into EAIS, send applications and apply to the state for a subsidy. So far, 505,245 farmers working in various fields of agriculture have been registered in the EAIS.

Of these, 409,975 people appealed for sowing annual and perennial crops. In 2020, subsidies in the amount of 213.8 million manat ($125.7 million) have already been paid to farmers.

Since early 2020, new rules for subsidizing agricultural production came into force, according to which agricultural subsidies will be issued to farmers through the EAIS.

The new mechanism related to measures on agricultural support serves to increase accountability, transparency, ensure the efficient use of budgetary funds, as well as simplifies the process of farmers' appeal and issuance of subsidies to them.
