Armenian government approves action programme for joining Customs Union

The Armenian government has today adopted a programme of actions required for joining the Customs Union, RIA Novosti reported today.

Deputy Economy Minister Karine Minasyan said that a negotiating team has been formed to conduct the preparatory work as part of Armenia's accession to the Customs Union upon the Armenian and Russian presidents' instructions.

"Around seven working groups will be formed," she said. "They will consider the possibility of cooperation taking into account the lack of a common border with the Customs Union's countries."

The programme of actions in particular, envisages a comparison of documentation of the Customs Union with Armenia's legal framework and its international agreements.

Armenia's intention to join the Customs Union and further participation in the formation of an Eurasian Economic Union was voiced following talks between the Russian and Armenian Presidents Vladimir Putin and Serzh Sargsyan on September 3.
