Some 18 people were dismissed following the interrogations over the murder of an Armenian family in Gyumri by Russian serviceman Valery Permyakov. All these individuals are related to the management of the Russian military base in Gyumri, Zhoghovurd newspaper reported.
Some 4,228 people were questioned by the investigative bodies of Armenia and Russia. Some 500 people were questioned by the Armenian investigators and more than 3,700 people by the Russian side, the statement said.
"Some 18 people were dismissed," the statement said. "An official of the Russian defense ministry, who directly controlled the activity of the 102nd Russian military base in Armenia, was also dismissed."
On January 12, Russian conscript Valeri Permyakov left his military unit without permission. Permyakov killed six members of the Avetisyan family in their house in Gyumri. A six-month-old baby was wounded. Later the baby also died. On January 13, border guards detained Permyakov while he was trying to illegally cross the border with Turkey.
"Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin met with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan in Yerevan on January 20," the Armenian presidential press-service said. "Bastrykin expressed confidence that the public hearing to be held in Armenia will demonstrate the commitment of the sides to achieve fairness and justice."
