Georgia Materials 12 December 2007 16:32 (UTC +04:00)

( Prime-News ) - Presidential candidate Mikheil Saakashvili reckons that decision of the Central Election Commission of Georgia (CEC) on banning opening of constituencies for Georgian soldiers in Kosovo in Iraq is inadmissible.

Saakashvili told journalists that it is a scandalous decision of the CEC and the commission should change it or it will be appealed against to the court.

According to him, it is inadmissible that the important part of Georgian citizens is deprived of the right to vote.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) made a decision according to which Georgian soldiers serving in Kosovo and Iraq will not have the right to vote at the early presidential elections scheduled for January 05 2008.

Opposition reckons that participation of Georgian soldiers in presidential elections is unjustified because of their security and that Georgian constitution prohibits holding of elections in the state of emergency.
