All Gori Residents to Be Housed by Winter: Georgian President

Georgia, Tbilisi, 11 September / Trend corr. N.Kirtskhalia / Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili personally got familiarization with rehabilitation work in Gori on 10 September. Everybody will have opportunity to live in their houses supplied with gas heating and furniture, the President told residents of thrice bombed populated area and other citizens.

He also explained reasons of abandonment of Gori. It was connected with attempt to avoid more victims, Saakashvili said.

Saakasvili mentioned with regret that evacuation of Gori's people was unorganized. The President is sure that is the Georgian Army did not retreat and war went on in the city, the conflict would destroy buildings and streets of Gori. "We avoided more destructions and victims leaving Gori," Saakashvili stated.

According to the President, refugees should repatriate to villages near to Gori by the winter and it means that their number will be reduced by 30,000. Saakashvili commissioned to the Interior Minister Van Merabishvili to supervise large-scale construction work.
