Georgian Parliament Adopts Statement Concerning Russian Provocative Actions

Georgia, Tbilisi, 24 October / corr Trend N.Kirtzkhalia / The Georgian legislative body adopted unanimously a special statement in connection with non-fulfillment of 6-article agreement and possible new aggression by Russia. 94 MPs voted for it.

An acceptable variant was developed during consultations with David Bakradze, speaker of parliament, in connection with text of statement.

It is dealt with events, which took place lately in Tskhinvali and Akhalgori, to be more concrete, deployment of additional Russian armed forces in these regions. "In this way, Russia infringes all agreements and poses danger of new provocation, which demands immediate reaction of world community," the statement says.

"Russia violated grossly the international papers and fundamental principles of human rights by ethnic cleansing, carried out in occupied territories with its direct participation and assistance. Recognition of independence of Abkhazia and former South Ossetian autonomous region is the rough violation of norms of international right, the effort of annexation of Georgian territory and legalization of consequences of ethnic cleansing," the statement says.

"The Georgian parliament calls on the world community to demand from Russia to fulfill this agreement, to refrain from subsequent violation of Georgian airspace, provocative rhetoric and actions, including the creation of military bases in Abkhazia and former South-Ossetian autonomous region, demand from Russia to eliminate the consequences of ethnic cleansing, assist in safe repatriation of all refugees, demand from Russia to fulfill Article 22.4 of  Resolution 1633 of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, which obliges the parties to work over the issue of new peacemaking process and internationalization of peacemaking forces, demand from the President of Russia to abolish the decision on recognition of independence of Abkhazia and former South Ossetian autonomous region in accordance with Article 9 of the same resolution of the Council of Europe and assist in development and functioning of international mechanism of independent investigation on reasons and escalation of conflict as soon as possible," the statement says.
