Council of Europe holds on agenda the situation in Georgia, president of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (CoE), Swiss Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy-Rey said during the winter session of PACE.

"Consequences of the Georgian-Russian war are on the agenda of the meetings of the Committee of Ministers. We want to give a new direction to this issue. We shall return to it on the basis of the expected proposals of the Committee of Ministers Secretary. Protecting and monitoring human rights in the territories affected by war is a priority for us. I want to emphasize the efforts of Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe in this regard. I also appeal to the ruling circles to support the efforts of the Commissioner," said the president of the Committee.

Switzerland pays special attention to this issue, she said.

"During my visit to Georgia on Jan. 16-17, I had an opportunity to closely get familiarized with the situation," the minister said.
