Georgian president, EU special representative discuss ensuring Eastern Neighbourhood countries’ security

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia, Ambassador, Philippe Lefort discussed issues of ensuring security and stability of the EU’s European Neighbourhood in Tbilisi on Monday.

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia, Ambassador, Philippe Lefort discussed issues of ensuring security and stability of the EU's European Neighbourhood in Tbilisi on Monday. As the Georgian presidential administration told Trend, the meeting was held at the presidential palace in Tbilisi.

"The sides also discussed issues of strengthening the EU role in the peaceful settlement of the conflict between Georgia and Russia," Georgian presidential administration said.

Saakashvili and Lefort also discussed fulfillment of the Agreement date Aug.12, 2008, the situation in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, and the state of IDPs.

The region of the EU's Eastern Neighbourhood includes Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova and Russia.
