Security personnel opened warning shots at protesters' attempts to break into the building of the de facto South Ossetian government, RIA Novosti quoted the breakaway region's administration official as saying.

Gunfire opened up in Tskhinvali main square where supporters of the former de-facto presidential candidate Alla Jioyeva gathered to express their disagreement with the decision to cancel the outcome of the presidential election.

"Various estimates said that between 700 to 1000 of Jioyeva supporters are currently standing in front of the government buildings. They tried to rush into the Central Election Commission building when the State security officers fired into air with machine guns to warn them against such actions," a source in the breakaway region administration reported. No casualties were reported as there was no shoot to kill policy.

The security forces let the former de-facto presidential candidate of breakaway South Ossetia Alla Jioyeva enter the building followed by her supporter, Gen. Anatoly Barankevitch.
