Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili visited new block in Batumi in a Tamaris settlement, which was built specially for three thousand refugees from Abkhazia, on Thursday.
Twenty two residential houses for 608 families were built on the area of a former recycling plant.
Neighboring territory was equipped, asphalt was laid, works on gasification were implemented, street lighting, water supply and sewerage systems were installed, children and sports grounds were built.
About five thousand people, mostly locals, were involved in the construction.
A project under the agreement between Georgia and the EU was implemented under the coordination of municipal development fund.
Saakashvili said, two factories, one of them the clothing company of Adidas, will be open prior to the resettlement of refugees in the area.
Military actions were launched in the Georgian territory, South Ossetia on Aug.8 in 2008. Later the Russian troops occupied the Tskhinvali city and drove the Georgian military back. Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in late August. In response, Tbilisi broke off diplomatic relations with Moscow and announced two unrecognized republics as the occupied territories.
