Sopio Lebanidze has been appointed as the head of the Health Ministry's Mediation Service in Georgia. Health, Labour and Social Protection Minister Zurab Tchiaberashvili introduced her to reporters at a press conference on Tuesday.
Lebanidze will also serve as the ombudsman of Health.
The minister said their main task is to protect the rights of each individual when people are increasingly in need.
"From September all pensioners, children under 5 years old, and students will be added to the more than 800 thousands insured vulnerable citizens to date," he said.
Tchiaberashvili said mediation officers were selected on a competitive basis.
"More than ,1100 candidates participated in the competition. I want to thank them, because it indicates the confidence in us. Priorities for selection were professionalism, education and experience. The service admitted both those who have served and those who have just joined us. It is important to retain existing staff and attract new," he said.
