PACE delegation arrives in Georgia on pre-election mission

A delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, composed of five people has arrived in Georgia. On September 11-12, the delegation will study the situation prior to the parliamentary election scheduled for October 1.
PACE delegation arrives in Georgia on pre-election mission

Georgia, Tbilisi, Sept 11 /Trend N.Kirtzkhalia/

A delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, composed of five people has arrived in Georgia. On September 11-12, the delegation will study the situation prior to the parliamentary election scheduled for October 1.

The delegation headed by Italian politician Luca Volonte from the group of the European People's Party, will meet with President Saakashvili, Speaker David Bakradze and Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze, as well as with representatives of various political parties.

The delegation will also meet with the chairman of the Central Election Commission of Georgia Zurab Kharatishvili, chairman of the Commission for verification of voter lists Mamuka Katsitadze from the New Right, head of the state audit Lasha Tordia, the diplomatic community, civilian organisations and the media.

"An extended PACE mission consisting of 21 people will arrive in the country to observe the voting process before a definitive assessment of the elections," a PACE spokesperson said.

Commenting on the visit of the PACE delegation, Deputy Foreign Minister Nino Kalandadze said that the main objective of the delegation is the familiarisation with the election process in Georgia.
