Georgian Interior Ministry has detained three people in connection with the events that took place outside the National Library in Tbilisi. A crowd of former political prisoners and their supporters did not let Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili deliver a speech, blocking the entrance and not allowing the members of the parliamentary minority and Tbilisi mayor Gigi Ugulava to enter the building.
After questioning 10 people, police detained a former political prisoner Melor Vachnadze and activist Mikhail Meskhi. They are charged with disorderly conduct.
Giorgi Mamaladze, who hit MP Chiora Taktakishvili breaking her nose, was also detained.
It should be noted that the parliamentary majority leader David Saganelidze emphasized that "mayor Ugulava must be punished for provocative actions." Saganelidze said Ugulava behaved provocatively causing discontent in the crowd.
Referring to yesterday's clashes outside the National Library, U.S. Ambassador Richard Norland called the parties to dialogue, saying that what happened is far from diplomacy. He said Georgian government is responsible for the incident.
