The United National Movement of Georgia, headed by President Mikheil Saakashvili, will begin its presidential campaign on June 30. The statement on the matter was made by the party member Giorgi Vashadze on Friday.

According to him, regardless of the attack on the National Movement, the party will still be involved in the race, and the process will start on June 30 in Kutaisi.

As Vashadze noted, the candidates to take part in the early voting will be named on Saturday at 12:00.

"There is a large, ongoing attack against the National Movement. Its goal is to destroy the structure and infrastructure of the party. It is necessary to mention the message of the NATO Secretary General. He expressed a great concern over the arrests. Alexi Petriashvili has referred to it as sabotage. Once, NATO Secretary-General departed, detentions resumed. We decided not to change our plan on holding primaries," Vashadze said.

Primaries is preliminary (primary) election, when the selection of candidates to be nominated by the party in the upcoming elections takes place.

Presidential election in Georgia is scheduled for late 2013.
