Georgia, Tbilisi, Aug. 23/Trend N.Kirtzkhalia /

Three Georgian citizens were detained by Russian border guards in the separatist regions of South Ossetia.

According to the Georgian side, three residents of the village of Zegduleti were detained by armed personnel on their way to a neighbouring village.
Spouses Nanu Vanishvili and Alexander Tsertsvadze, as well as Irakliy Merabishvili are accused of crossing the so called borders of South Ossetia.

During the arrest of the Georgian citizens, a six-year old child was with them, but Russian border guards did not detain the child. They let the child go to the nearest village.
During the last two months seven Georgian citizens have been arrested in this area. All were released after paying a fine.

Georgian Interior Ministry has already started negotiations with officials in South Ossetia and Russia.

Large scale military action was launched in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008. Later, Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military.

Russia recognised the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August. In response, Tbilisi ended diplomatic relations with Moscow and has called the two unrecognised republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories.
