Georgia not only intends, but is also obliged to assist Russia in ensuring security during the Olympic Games, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said at a meeting with media on Thursday.

"The fight against terrorism is a task of any normal country and in this respect we are cooperating with all countries," he said.

Garibashvili said that Georgian special services during the year are taking special security measures to avoid any complications in connection with the Olympics.

"We ensured all risks are set to a minimum and these measures will be strengthened during the Olympics," Garibashvili said.

Garibashvili stressed that Georgia together with the international community intends to fight against terrorism.

"Our participation in the NATO peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan is very important," he said. "We are ready to continue exerting our efforts to contribute to ensuring international security."
