A meeting with Iranian parliamentary delegation has been held in Georgian parliament.

Iranian MPs met with the chairman of the Committee for Diaspora and Caucasus Issues of the Georgian parliament Gubaz Sanikidze and head of the parliament's Foreign Relations Committee Tedo Japaridze, Georgian parliament told Trend on Oct.28.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the further intensification of economic and political relations between Georgia and Iran.

"It is necessary to intensify the relations between the two countries. The government of Georgia is convinced that it is necessary to cooperate with neighboring countries," Japaridze said.

"Iran is a leader in the region and Georgia should have close and friendly relations with this country," he added.

Iranian and Georgian parliamentarians also discussed the latest developments in the region. They focused on the intensification of economic relations, as well as cooperation in the spheres of agriculture, energy and tourism.

During the meeting, it was announced that chairman of Georgian parliament David Usupashvili is expected to visit Iran in December 2014.
