Geostat shares data on number of employees in business sector for 2020

The number of employees in the business sector in Georgia in 2020 was above 703,900, which is 7 percent less than in 2019, Trend reports, citing Geostat (National Statistics Office).

Of the total number of employees, 41.5 percent were women and 58.5 percent – men.

Some 37.2 percent of the total number of employees were from large businesses, 21.7 percent - from medium-sized businesses, and the remaining 41.2 percent – from small-sized businesses.

The total number of employees was 656,300 people, which is 6.5 percent less than in 2019.

According to Geostat, the total expenditures of businesses on staff stood at 9.8 million Georgian lari ($3.1 million).

In 2020, the average monthly salary in the business sector was 1,222 lari ($390), which is an increase of 61 lari ($19), compared to 2019.

According to the size of businesses, the average monthly salary of large businesses was 1,328 lari ($424), medium businesses – 1,419 lari ($453), and small businesses – 991 lari ($316).

The business sector in 2020 was dominated by the trade, manufacturing and healthcare and social services sectors. However, a significant share in the structure also fell on the businesses in the field of construction, transport, warehousing and catering activities.
