By Maryana Akhmedova – Trend:

In cooperation with local winemakers, as a result of state-sponsored marketing measures and sustainable quality assurance of Georgian wine, revenues from wine sales and other grape spirits will reach $1 billion by 2030, Trend reports via Georgian National Wine Agency.

The statement was made at the meeting between the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili and the representatives of the National Wine Agency. The parties summarized the results of the current year and discussed the plans for 2022.

The sides noted that the main success of 2021 is the growing export statistics, as well as the organized harvesting process, the completion of the vineyard cadaster program in Kakheti and Racha-Lechkhumi regions, and the activities carried out to improve the quality of wine.

According to the results of the current year, 26,500 hectares of vineyards in Kakheti and Racha-Lechkhumi regions were allocated within the framework of the Vineyard Cadaster Program.

During the harvest of 2021, a total of 23,000 farmers delivered the grapes to the enterprises, while 243,000 tons of grapes were processed across Georgia, and the income of Georgian winegrowers reached 270 million Georgian lari ($85.9 million).

The current Vineyard Cadaster Program will be implemented in the Kartli region in 2022 and will cover all wine regions of Georgia in the future. The creation of the Georgian National Vineyard Cadaster will simplify the vintage process and ensure the quality of grape products.

According to Levan Davitashvili, the plans of the National Wine Agency are in line with the long-term strategy of the Georgian government for the development of the wine industry. In particular,

The production of marketing campaigns in the strategic export markets of Georgian wine will be strengthened in the next 10 years, and will be aimed at promoting large-scale sales of Georgian wine in the niche segment as well as in trade networks.

According to the instruction of the Minister, the National Wine Agency of Georgia, in parallel with the increase in the volume of exports, should continue the measures aimed at increasing the quality of Georgian wine and alcoholic beverages.

Georgian strategic wine markets still remain in the US, Japan, China, Great Britain, Poland, Germany and Baltic countries. In order to diversify export markets, new markets are planned to be developed, the meeting concluded.
