Georgia sees increase in producer price index

The producer price index (PPI) for industrial products in Georgia in December 2021 increased by 3.8 percent, compared to November 2021, Trend reports via National Statistics Office (Geostat).

The same figure also increased by 20.3 percent, compared to the same month of 2020, the report said.

According to Geostat, the prices for products from mining and quarrying in 2021 decreased by 1.5 percent, compared to November 2021, contributing -0.09 percentage points to the overall monthly PPI change.

The prices for manufactured products increased by 4.9 percent, with a 3.98 percent contribution to the monthly index change, the report said.

A significant price increase was recorded for chemicals and chemical products – 57.6 percent, Geostat said.

According to the report, the prices decreased by 0.9 percent for the electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning category, contributing -0.09 percentage points to the monthly index change.

Meanwhile, the annual PPI rate was mainly affected by the following categories:

- Products from mining and quarrying – a decrease of 7.2 percent (-0.52 - percentage points contribution to the overall annual index growth);

- Manufactured products – an increase of 24.9 percent (19.67-percentage points contribution to the annual index growth);

- Electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning – an increase of 9.4 percent (1.02-percentage points contribution to the annual index growth);

- Water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation services – an increase of 6.4 percent, (0.19 -percentage points contribution to the annual index growth).
