The number of plastic cards in circulation in Georgia from January through December 2021 amounted to 81.3 million cards, which is 0.4 percent more than over the same period of 2020 (80.9 million cards), Trend reports via the National Bank of Georgia (NBG).
Of the total number of cards in circulation in 2021, 74.6 million cards were debit cards, and 6.6 million were credit cards.
According to the NBG, the number of plastic cards in Georgia in December 2021 alone totaled 6.87 million cards, which is a decrease of 0.1 percent, compared to the same period of 2020 (6.88 million).
The volume of EC/MC debit cards in 2021 amounted to 45.8 million (a 5.9 percent decrease, compared to 48.7 million in 2020), while the number of VISA debit cards totaled 24.5 million (12.3 percent increase, compared to 21.8 million in 2020).
As for credit cards, the number of EC/MC credit cards over 2021 reached 1.4 million (33.3 percent decrease, compared to 2.1 million in 2020), while VISA credit cards totaled 2.1 million (22.2 percent decrease, compared to 2.7 million in 2020).
