Georgia marks increase in wine exports to strategic markets

Georgia exported 5.3 million wine bottles (0.75) in January 2022, which is an increase of 51 percent, compared to the same period of 2021, Trend reports, citing the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.

The value of Georgia’s wine exports in the reporting period of 2022 also increased by 43 percent, compared to January 2021 – to $11.6 million.

According to the Ministry, the export growth dynamics are maintained in strategic markets, where the National Wine Agency implements marketing measures to increase the popularity of Georgian wine.

The increase in wine exports were observed to the following destinations: Poland – 103 percent (502,986), China – 514 percent (278,493), Lithuania – 114 percent (117,588), the US – 245 percent (798), Latvia – 22 percent (92,892), Estonia – 102 percent (64,344), Japan – 482 percent (17,280), and the UK – 35 percent (42,528).

The growth was significant in the following countries as well: Ukraine – 93 percent (574,566), Kazakhstan – 106 percent (99,672), the Netherlands – 74 percent (18,270), Sweden – 234 percent (19,590), Russia – 34 percent (3.2 million), Mongolia – 23 percent (40,884).

Some 123 Georgia’s companies exported wine to 35 countries in the reporting period of 2022, the ministry said.

Meanwhile, Georgia’s wine exports value in 2021 amounted to $239.2 million – an increase of 13.7 percent, compared to $210.3 million over 2020. The volume of the exports also increased by 17 percent – from 68.7 billion bottles to 80.4 billion bottles.
