Georgia maintains high numbers in trade turnover in 2022

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 14

Georgia’s trade turnover in 2021 was on a high record, and the positive trend maintained in January 2022, Levan Davitashvili, the Deputy Prime Minister of Georgia, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, said, Trend reports via Georgian media.

“Preliminary, rather good data on January 2022 foreign trade showed that exports increased significantly by 47.6 percent year-on-year and amounted to $331.3 million, while imports also increased by 38.5 percent to $778.1 million. Overall, foreign trade turnover in January 2022 was at a record high, reaching $1.1 billion,” Davitashvili said.

According to the minister, in terms of Georgia’s stable economic recovery, as well as for investors, a very important message of the Fitch Rating was published, according to which Georgia has maintained a stable sovereign 'BB' rating.

Further speaking, the minister noted that Georgia plans to attract foreign investment and accelerate privatization, which will ultimately lead to increased employment.

“We will have a number of initiatives to ensure that the economic accelerator is directly linked to the employment, among which the privatization and investment policy should be intensified,” he added.
