Georgia Materials 17 October 2006 17:05 (UTC +04:00)

(civil.ge) - Georgian Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze hailed parliamentary summit of the GUAM Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova - in Chisinau and said that the event has once again confirmed the unity of the [GUAM] member countries.

A joint declaration reflects our joint aspiration to spare no efforts to protect sovereignty, territorial integrity and human rights in the GUAM member states, Nino Burjanadze said in an interview with the RFE/RL Georgian Service on October 16.

But reports said that Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova refrained to include in a text of the joint declaration Georgia's tough position towards Russia, reports Trend.

Georgia's position [towards Russia] could have been reflected in the text [of declaration], but it is natural that my, the Georgian Parliamentary Chairperson's statements will always be more tough-worded than an international document, which is signed by several different countries. What is the most important that we have achieved a consensus and in a bilateral meetings our partners have assured us to push the issue [Georgian-Russian tensions] at all levels to demand lifting of Russia's sanctions, Burjanadze said.
