One person was killed after a small plane crashed Wednesday near a major freeway in Los Angeles in the western U.S. state of California, authorities said, Trend reports citing Xinhua.
The fixed wing aircraft went down around 12:30 p.m. local time on the 210 freeway embankment in Sylmar, a suburban neighborhood within the City of Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Officials said one person was confirmed dead in the aircraft, adding that the age and gender of the victim was still unknown at this time.
"After a thorough search of all void spaces in the aircraft, firefighters did not locate any other victims," said the fire department in an alert.
"The small fuel leak was quickly contained by the first arriving fire companies. There was no fire resulting from the crash," officials said in the alert, adding that the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board is responding and will be the agency for any questions regarding the aircraft and the circumstances leading to the crash.
