In a new audio message purportedly from Osama bin Laden and broadcast on al-Jazeera, the Al-Qaeda turned Friday to environmental issues in attacking the United States and other industrial countries, DPA reported.

In the message, bin Laden said it was not an "intellectual luxury" to speak about climate change.

"This is a message to the whole world about those responsible for climate change and its repercussions - whether intentionally or unintentionally - and about the action we must take," bin Laden said.

He also urged people to stop using the US dollar in order to "free humankind from slavery to America."

"Noam Chomsky was correct when he compared the US policies to those of the Mafia," said bin Laden referring to the the US intellectual and political commentator. "They are the true terrorists and therefore we should refrain from dealing in the US dollar."

The authenticity of the tape could not immediately be verified.

It was the second purported message from the al-Qaeda leader to be released this week.

In the tape "Osama to Obama" a few days earlier, bin Laden warned US President Barack Obama that the US would face further attacks if it did not stop its support for Israel.

He also praised a Nigerian man's failed attempt to blow up an airplane over Detroit on December 25.
