Dubai police said Saturday that a parcel intercepted at their airport a day earlier contained explosives connected to mobile phone technology and bore the hallmarks of al- Qaeda, DPA reported.
According to statements carried by the official WAM news agency, "powerful explosives" had been hidden inside a printer cartridge and were connected to a mobile phone chip - a method similar to one previously employed by the global terrorist group.
The package was one of two containing explosive materials that were found Friday on United States-bound cargo flights, in what US President Barack Obama called a "credible terrorist threat." The second package was recovered at an airport in Britain.
The packages had originated in Yemen, the operating base of al- Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, and both were addressed to Jewish synagogues in Chicago.
