Hundreds of people marched in central Cairo on Monday to pay their respects to an Egyptian journalist killed by security forces during the current unrest, DPA reported.

At least 200 people walked from the Journalists' Union to nearby Tahrir square, where anti-government protesters joined the group in prayer for Ahmed Mahmoud.

Mahmoud, 39, was shot in the head by a security forces sniper on January 29 while filming clashes between anti-government protesters and police near the Ministry of the Interior in Cairo. He died six days later.

Mahmoud worked for the state-owned al-Taawun newspaper, which is published by the al-Ahram publishing house.
