Bahrain's state-run Gulf Air on Wednesday suspended all flights to Lebanon in a move to protest statements made by the leader of the Lebanese Hezbollah movement against authorities in the kingdom, dpa reported.
"We were informed that Gulf Air will suspend all flights to Lebanon starting March 23," a source at Beirut's international airport told the German Press Agency dpa.
Authorities in Bahrain on Tuesday asked citizens not to travel to Lebanon. Earlier this month, the Gulf Air suspended flights from Manama to Iran and Iraq, in similar moves.
Hezbollah leader Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, speaking at a rally in Beirut Saturday, referred to events in Bahrain as a "special injustice".
"Since violence is the nature of tyrants and sacrifice is the nature of the holy warrior, I ask some in the Arab and Islamic worlds: Why have you remained silent over the tyranny against our people in Bahrain, is it only because they are Shiites?"
Bahrain on Sunday criticized the Shiite movement's leader, saying his comments amounted to "blatant interference", and warning that it could harm Lebanon's interests in the Gulf.
Bahrain has accused Iran, Hezbollah's main backers, of being behind the unrest in the Gulf state.
