Morocco arrests three for Marrakech bombing

Three Moroccans have been arrested on charges of involvement with the terrorist bombing that killed 16 people a week ago in Marrakech, the Interior Ministry said Thursday, dpa reported.

The detainees included the suspected mastermind of the attack, the ministry said in a communique.

The al-Qaeda follower had previously tried to travel to Chechnya and Iraq to carry out attacks, before deciding to act inside Morocco.

He studied on the internet how to make explosives, and created two bombs, the ministry said.

The man entered the Argana cafeteria pretending to be a tourist, planting the explosives which he then set off with remote control on April 28.

The cafeteria was popular with tourists, and many of the 16 dead and 21 wounded were foreigners.
