Military leadership of the Libyan National Transitional Council refutes arrest of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's official representative Musa Ibrahim, Al Arabiya TV channel reports on Saturday.

The National Transitional Council stated that search for Ibrahim is still underway, and his family members have been already detained.

The Libyan National Transitional Council announced about arrest of Musa Ibrahim - official representative of Muammar Gaddafi's regime on Thursday.

It is reported that Ibrahim was captured by rebels in suburb of Sirte, when attempted to hide in a crowd of rebels in order to leave the city.

Mass demonstrations demanding for the ouster of Qaddafi, who has been ruling the country for more than 40 years, started in Libya in mid-February and subsequently grew into armed confrontation between the government forces and the rebels. During the nearly six months of fighting Gaddafi regime's opponents managed to establish control over practically the entire Libyan territory. In late August, the opposition forces with support of NATO aviation captured the Libyan capital of Tripoli. Gaddafi's whereabouts is still unknown.

In February, the opposition formed National Transitional Council (NTC) in Benghazi, which has been announced as the only legitimate authority in the country. NTC has been recognized by some 60 countries.
