On Wednesday, at eight o'clock in the morning presidential elections began in Egypt. Around 14,000 polling stations have opened in 27 provinces, the Masravi agency reports. Some 50 million Egyptians are eligible to vote in the elections.

Voting will last two days and will end on May 24. Preliminary election results will be announced at a press conference next Monday.

However, according to analysts, a new president of Egypt is unlikely to be elected in the first round, because 13 candidates are claiming this post, and people's votes will disperse among them, so none of the candidates will succeed to gain the necessary number of votes to be elected in the first round.

Among the candidates are former supporters of former President Hosni Mubarak - former Arab League secretary general and former Egyptian foreign minister Amr Moussa, and former Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq.

The leaders of the election, according to the polls, are the Islamists - Muslim Brotherhood representative Mohammed Mursi and a former member of this movement, independent candidate Abdel-Moneim Aboul-Fotouh.

Presidential elections in Egypt should be the last and most important step in the transfer of power from military to civilian rule the country.

Final election results will be announced on June 21. The transfer of power to elected civilian authorities will be held no later than June 30
