Germany and Britain on Wednesday called for sanctions to be applied against Damascus to compel it to implement the six-point plan of international envoy Kofi Annan, dpa reported.
"The situation in Syria needs a comprehensive approach and we should use all the tools available to the UN Security Council," German Ambassador Peter Wittig told reporters.
Wittig and British Ambassador Mark Lyall Grant said a draft resolution under Chapter 7 of the UN Charter will be submitted to the council, trusting that the body would accept it.
"It will contain a clear threat of sanctions if the regime in Syria fails to implement the six-point plan," Grant said.
