International envoy Kofi Annan said Wednesday's attack that killed at least three top Syrian government officials in Damascus reinforced the need for "decisive" action by the UN Security Council, DPA reported.

Annan said he "condemns all bloodshed, and violence in all its forms, and feels that today's violence only underscores the urgency of decisive Security Council action."

He said he had contacted a number of Security Council members on Tuesday urging them to "unite and take concerted and strong action that would help stem the bloodshed in Syria and build momentum for a political transition."

The 15-nation council was scheduled to meet Thursday to vote on a resolution on Syria.
