The UN Human Rights Council passed a resolution Friday calling for the perpetrators of war crimes and human rights violations in Syria to be prosecuted, dpa reported.
The resolution, which says Syrian authorities have failed to bring human rights violators to justice and notes "the potential relevance of international justice," is seen to point to possible future legal action by the UN.
The council encouraged "members of the international community to ensure that there is no impunity for such violations," echoing UN rights chief Navi Pillay's call on the UN Security Council to refer the matter to the International Criminal Court.
